This landmark gallery is the largest exhibition space in the South East outside of London. Designed by the award winning David Chipperfield Architects, the gallery sits on Margate seafront, on the same site where JMW Turner stayed when visiting the town in the 19th Century. The project incorporates a number of efficient technologies such as a ground source heat pump that will reduce the building’s carbon footprint. Energy-efficient lighting, heating and ventilation systems are also elegantly incorporated into the architectural design.
All equipment was specifically selected for the building, including specialist lighting and audio-visual equipment. The efficient features installed have enabled the Gallery to achieve a BREEAM Bespoke ‘Very Good’ rating – a first for a new gallery in the UK.
