Mansel House is a comprehensive refurbishment and redevelopment to provide grade A contemporary energy efficient offices. The building was designed as a low carbon workplace, and to be leading edge in both environmental performance and occupier comfort. The installed innovative cooling system comprises networks of cooling pipes embedded within the soffit of the concrete slab that circulate cold water. The cold water cools the building fabric which provides a large surface to cool the office air.
High efficiency lighting was installed throughout the building, controlled by an intelligent lighting control system that ensured energy usage is kept to a minimum. The refurbishment introduced a comprehensive system of smart energy sub-meters and occupancy sensors. Mansel House was awarded an Energy Performance Certificate B and BREEAM Excellent rating. The completed building is at least 50% more energy efficient than typical equivalent buildings. It also won the 2015 Guardian Sustainable Business Innovation Award for the Built Environment Category.
