The Academy is an outstanding example of a Free School located in Croydon. Procured through the Education and Skills Funding Agency (EFSA’s) Contractors Framework, the project was conceived by Invictus (a community organisation) working in partnership with the Harris Federation (a multi-academy trust) with the aim of meeting significant demand within the community for new, high quality school places for local children. The building services are designed with energy efficiency as a top priority. This is achieved by utilising a balance of natural daylight along with, hybrid, natural and passive ventilation.
The internal lighting design consists of LED light fittings throughout, this is linked to daylight sensors which will turn off certain light fittings when the external lighting levels are sufficient to satisfy the internal requirements. The project also utilised the benefit of a combined heat and power (CHP) unit as a primary heat source, with the electricity generated being fed back into the main LV board and national grid. Harris Invictus won the Education Estates Project of the Year Award 2018.
